What the Classroom Struggles to Teach

And where the sports platform must deliver…

“A good coach will make his players see what they can be rather than what they are” – Ara Parrseghian

Coaching is more than teaching players how to play the game.  Perhaps more importantly, coaches teach us how to deal with life outside of sports.   Beyond athletic skills, they teach us the following:

To never be satisfied – always look for ways you can improve.
To make your weaknesses become strengths.
To strive for excellence – don’t settle for anything less than 100% effort
To set examples – show that “working hard” is cool and the results worthwhile.
To set goals and have a plan to achieve those goals.

Beyond skills, coaches must find ways to teach these lessons through motivation.  Motivation is essential to achievement.  A desire to improve will go a long way in becoming successful in both sports and life.
