Childhood Obesity among Top Concerns for Americans
In the midst of health care reform and many other debates, one topic has gained the attention of Americans – childhood obesity.
According to a new poll conducted by Knowledge Networks, Inc showing Americans’ top priorities regarding childhood health concerns, childhood obesity and bullying are two major topics that adults agree presidential candidates should address. The survey, which asked 2,100 adults to choose the most important child health issue reported back the following:
- 17% said childhood obesity
- 15% said bullying
- 11% said drug abuse
- 8% said child abuse and neglect
Study researcher, Matthew Davis of the University of Michigan points out that many serious health problems we see in adults are rooted in childhood; including obesity, heart disease, diabetes and depression. To address these problems and combat childhood obesity, experts recommend implementing healthy eating habits and daily exercise among children.
