A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CAMPER

9:00am -- Stretch, Warm-Ups, Motivation
It's Thursday and that means it's "Playoff Football Day." Our Directors and Coaches are excited to get going and that comes through in their opening day speech.  They frame up the daily goals and remind campers of important expectations.  Keeping well hydrated is emphasized by camp athletic trainer.

9:15am -- Speed and Agility
This is one of the few "complete group" activities we do.  The entire camp gets to work on the single most effective way to become a better athlete--speed and conditioning development.  We teach running form so each camper gets the most power and efficiency out of every running stride.  Lateral agility develops a better athlete.  The spirit is high as we get the blood going.

9:30am-- Offensive Skills Stations
It's roll time.   Campers are separated by age and experience level.  Today we focus on Wide Receivers and Tight Ends, so footballs will be in the air.  And former Bears Wide Receiver and Notre Dame star Kris Haines has arrived!  Coaches have staged five stations, each led by an adult assistant coach.  The program rotates like school class rooms.   Campers are getting great instruction and plenty of attempts to get it right.  The coaches are vocal and constantly reinforcing the positive moments.

9:50am-- Water and Gatorade Break
All campers brought a refillable water bottle and they head quickly to the Gatorade tubs for a fill-up.   It's a cool day fortunately and campers are reminded that they should take a water break any time they feel the need.

11:00am --Camp Combine Skill Challenges
Each day, campers have been testing themselves against drills the best NFL stars must face.  Today they run the 40 yard dash for time.  Each camper applies some of the speed development techniques learned throughout the week.  In this case, they compete against themselves (rather than other campers) and hope to improve their personal best.  Each camper starts from a three-point stance and sprints  40 yards. The player is timed in 10, 20 and 40 yard increments, to gauge the player's explosion of the line and time to top speed.

11:30am -- Lunch Break
We head indoors.  Campers bring their own healthy lunch.  A peanut free table is set aside.  Coaches and campers get to know each other in a more social setting.  Coaches are pleased that all campers clean the lunch room and throw their garbage away properly.

11:50pm -- Five Questions with a Hero
Former Bears wide receiver Wendell Davis signs autographs and answers questions about his life in the NFL.  He talks about playing with the great Walter Payton during his career.  This is a perfect tranistion to our next feature.

12:10--The Walter Payton Story
The Camp Director provides a profound introduction on why this man represents everything a great athlete should be.  The kids enjoy a 25 minute story about this legend's life.

12:30pm -- Eat Like a Chicago Bear
The final indoor curriculum of the day puts campers as owners as they attempt to lure NFL players to their restaurant to dine.  Some players prefer carbohydrates in their diet, others have requests with respect to protein, fat and calories.  Each camper must understand the difference in each nutrient and make the right call.

1:15pm -- Warm-Up
Campers head outside again for the day's big events.  But first, elected captains lead the entire group in a 10 minute warm up.

1:25pm -- Defensive Skill Stations
We quickly lock into defensive skill stations.  Everyone is working "Defensive Back Coverage."  Kids learn about quick pivots and breaking on the ball.  Feet are flying.  The camp looks ready for some game action.

1:45am-- Water and Gatorade Break

1:50pm -- 7 on 7 Challenges
Game On!  Four games are going on with plenty of great action.   Young kids are really improving their ability to throw and catch.  Coaches note that "an upset" is in the making in the older group.  The noise level is loud and camp is a blast!

2:50pm -- Reinforcements
The Director reminds the group about all the good things we accomplished that day.  Eight "outstanding campers"are acknowleged for their leadership and each gets a shot at winning the team helmet.

3:00pm -- End of Day
Parents arrive and kids are dismissed in a controlled manner.
